Our aim is flexibility, offering treks from one night to 10 days for individuals and groups of any size, and can be arranged with a weekend or weekday start. Remember, we can adapt our timetable to your arrival day and time.

Prices for the standard treks shown include airport transfers from Tozeur or Djerba, meals on route, 2 nights accommodation in a small, family run hotel, your guide, camels and their drivers, food in the Sahara, and of course, plenty of bottled water.

Trekking

Our treks are of moderate difficulty, allowing the combination of walking and camel riding as you choose. These treks can be made more strenuous for the more experienced and those into extreme sports.

For disabled trekkers, or simply through preference, the trips can be completed in 4x4 vehicles. Prices available on request.

Children from the age of 3 can be safely accommodated on our 6-day treks, and for the young ones a special saddle can be constructed which will keep the child secure on the camel - even if they fall asleep.

Camel at dawn

Whichever trek you choose you will live the Bedouin lifestyle, a lifestyle of which your guides are extremely proud and love to share. You will cook, ride camels, and learn some of the camp-craft of the Bedouin; fetching wood, rounding up the camels and constructing daytime shelters from the midday sun.

You will see the splendour of sunrise and sunset and the desert sky at night, sitting around the fire surrounded by darkness with the soft noise of the wind for company.

Sleeping under the stars

Bedouin tent

You can sleep under the stars, or for those that prefer to be undercover, a Bedouin tent will be available each night.

Other options

4x4 Saharan Explorer

A 7 night trek by 4x4 for groups of 4 or more with transfers from Monastir. £550 per person.

Day 1 Transfer from the airport to Matmata and your overnight hotel.

Day 2 Visit the Star Wars film set before joining your camels for a short desert trek and overnight stay under the Saharan stars.

Day 3 Another short camel trek, then travel by 4x4 to the campsite at Ksar Guilane for a 2 night stay.

Day 4 Visit the wells at Elmeda, a popular watering place for bands of nomadic Bedouin. Return to Ksar Guilane for the night.

Day 5 Travel by 4x4 to the campsite at Ainsbat for a 1 night stay amid high dunes and small mountains.

Day 6 Travel by 4x4 to Douiret for an overnight stay in a cave dwelling.

Day 7 Travel north for an overnight stay at a hotel in Sfax or El Jem, with its impressive Roman amphitheatre.

Day 8 Leave in the morning for Monastir in time for your flight home.

Overnight Desert Camping

Due to the severity of the Saharan summer we do not run full length camel treks during June, July or August. As an alternative we organise stays of 1 or 2 nights in the desert, leaving the Sahara during the heat of the day for optional short, local excursions before returning to the Sahara for another night beneath the stars.

Both options are suitable for children.

Bedouin musicians

On the final night in the Sahara there will be an evening of traditional music if you wish.

All our treks can be combined with visits to other places of interest in southern Tunisia which, in addition to 1 or 2 nights in the Sahara, will take you to places of interest such as the oasis town of Tozeur, the Star Wars set at Nefta, the troglodyte dwellings at Matmata or to Tataouine, again with a Star Wars set, part of which is being converted into a hotel. You will stay each night at a hotel in that particular locality before moving on to the next town of interest.

December In Douz, the Festival of the Sahara, a celebration of Bedouin culture, is an annual event which attracts visitors from all over the world. The 4-day event held in late December is a worthwhile spectacle and an exciting way to spend Christmas, with the option of combining this with one or two nights in the Sahara.

A Sahara trek is a novel way to celebrate birthdays, graduations, special occasions, or simply to take time out.

Prices

Prices for groups of 5 or more, lengths of stay, treks by 4x4, transfers from other airports, and requirements other than those shown, are available on request.
